Camp dining hall

Dorset, Ontario, Canada

December 2002
The dining hall for the summer camp at Lake Kawagama in northern Ontario, Canada by Shim-Sutcliffe is thoughtfully crafted from local timber. It achieves an admirable blending of the social and the natural, and is adaptable in a range of weather conditions. The jury was impressed by its simple and effective natural climate control systems, and by the ways in which the large building is both social centre and landmark, while achieving scale appropriate for its beautiful setting and for its young users.
